Guided tour in Monfragüe National Park, birding Extremadura

 

Monfragüe is one of the most beautiful examples of Mediterranean forest in the southern Iberian Peninsula. It is protected as National Park, Biosphere Reserve, Special Protection Area for Birds and Site of Community Importance being one of the best places in Europe for watching diurnal birds of pray.

 

Resident species: Spanish Imperial Eagle, Golden Eagle, Bonelli’s Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Black Vulture, Griffon Vulture, Eurasian Eagle-Owl, Iberian Magpie, Blue Rock Thrush.

 

Summer species: Egyptian Vulture, Snake Short-toed Eagle, Booted Eagle, Black Kite, Black Stork, Alpine Swift, White-rumped Swift, Eurasian Golden Oriole, European Bee-eater.

 

Mammals: Otter, Red Deer, Red Fox, Wild Boar.

 

This route crosses the heart of Monfragüe National Park, stopping at the viewpoints of Tajo and Tiétar rivers. Beautiful and highly recommended route to get started in birdwatching in Extremadura.
